The Porsche Principle
This estimate gets to the heart of everything that makes Porsche what it is. As as an organization a brand and as an automotive producer. It has been our guiding star - for more than 65 years. And all of the values that characterise our work and our vehicles are covered by it. It's no wonder, therefore, that no-one can describe this better than the person who created the initial sports car to bear the Porsche name: Ferdinand Anton Ernst - or Ferry Porsche, for short.
At first, I looked around and couldn't locate the auto I'd been dreaming of: a small, lightweight sports car which uses energy economically. Therefore I made the decision to build myself to it.

Along the way, we follow an agenda, an ideal that unites us all. We refer to it just as the Porsche Principle. The fundamental principle is to at all times get the most out of everything. From day one, we've strived to translate functionality in the most sensible manner possible - into speed - and success. It's no longer all about horsepower, but more ideas per hp. This rule originates on the race track and is embodied in every single one of our autos. We call it "Intelligent Operation".
Porsche is a unique business with strong ideals. Philosophies and our values permeate through everything we do to ensure that we always remain true to our principles. Because of this, despite what others might do, we at Porsche seek to stretch limits and are committed to continual advancement.
In line with the principle of reaching maximum output signal from minimum input, this race-inspired philosophy is built-in to each and every one of our cars since day one. Considering that the 356 Nr. 1 was assembled.
Where this assurance comes from? The reply is simple. We never forget who we are.
Because they were aesthetically successful? Because people found them "appealing"? Yes, what goes without saying. However, the thing that is truly amazing was the harmony of the design concept, in which function is followed by layout.
A Porsche is immediately recognisable. This is thanks to the distinctive design idiom and contours: the wings which are higher compared to the bonnet, the roofline, the strong shoulders. Characteristics that every Porsche version has picked up on and reinterpreted for more than 60 years - for character and its age.
